Where does the name “Charis”
come from and what does it mean?
Charis (pronounced “Kare’us”) is a Greek word
used throughout the New Testament. It is often
translated in English as grace or favor and is
used in relation to what God bestows upon the
created order.

It also has an implication of increasing
people in faith and kindling them toward
Christian virtues.
We’ve chosen this word for the emphasis on
God’s grace that we have within the worship
service rather than on God’s
judgment. Unfortunately, the church as
judgmental is a stereotype that many outside the
church have and we simply claim to be an
alternative.
