My name is Sam Powers and at age 39 I am a staunch
Gen Xer. I’ve been married to Sheryl Heaton
Powers since 1994 and we have two children, Kyla,
who is in 1st grade and David who is
in preschool. My call to the ministry has been
received as a process of living rather than one
specific event and you can read about it
here:
I currently serve as the senior pastor at
Piedmont First United Methodist Church and do so
as an ordained elder in The United Methodist
Church. According to our denomination, this
grants me authority to preside over the
sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
Holy Communion is an important part of my
faith journey. I believe that Jesus walked with
those polite society labeled as outcasts. As
Christians, we are to emulate Jesus in all we
say and do. With this in mind, it is very
comforting that our denomination opens the
sacrament of Holy Communion to all who gather
for worship. You need not be a member of The
United Methodist Church to commune with Christ.

As I began to dream about a worship service
that would reach more than we could out of our
traditional style, I thought that Holy Communion
would be an important ingredient in our time
together with God.
I hope that I’m an easily accessible
person. Please feel free to contact me through
email (stpowers@clergy.okumc.org)
or call me on my cell phone at 405.255.3917.
I look forward to getting to know you better.
In Christ,
Sam
